3On Friday 12 August, local Yamatji men gathered for a Men’s Health Day at Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (GRAMS). The ‘Pit Stop’ style event compared various car parts and systems to aspects of the human body that affect health.

Each of the men went through a series of checks including a ‘Chassis Check’ for waist measurements and diabetes risk, ‘Oil Pressure’ for blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol, and ‘Exhaust’ for lung health and smoking advice.

All participants at the no smoking event, received a healthy lunch and a gift pack which included healthy lifestyle messages and information, as well as their choice of a voucher for some free sessions at the local gym, pool or golf course or a footy or a basketball to take home and get active outside with their families.

Thank you to all of the Yamatji men who came along and got involved and all of the health staff who worked hard to bring the day together.
