The health of Port Macquarie children was the focus at a recent Live Longer! Healthy Community Day, hosted by Werin Aboriginal Medical Clinic, Port Macquarie Community Health Service, Birpai Local Aboriginal Land Council and St Joseph’s Family Services.
The day was a real opportunity for families with young children to come together and enjoy a day of fun activities including face painting, arts and craft, traditional games, jumping castle, kids’ Zumba and hand printing.
Free dental checks were provided on the day, along with information from local health services to raise awareness of the importance of good health.
A highlight of the day was a tree planting by Birpai Local Aboriginal Land Council Chairperson Uncle Bill O’Brien. The tree was intended as a representation of the young children who attended and, it is hoped, to be symbolic to them as they grow big and strong, just as the tree will.
What a fantastic way to celebrate good health – thank you, Port Macquarie!
