Stormy South Australian weather didn’t put a dampener on the 300 people-strong NAIDOC celebrations at the Christie Downs Community Centre on Tuesday 5 July.
The day kicked off with the NAIDOC Week address by Onkaparinga Mayor Lorraine Rosenburg, followed by an abundance of culture, including traditional dancing from local Aboriginal dancers, music from local artists, and a smorgasbord of bush tucker for lunch.
Good, healthy tucker included kangaroo, emu and wombat on the BBQ with sides of nutritious salads.
The Live Longer! Campaign teamed up with Healthy Lifestyle Workers and the Office for Recreation and Sport South Australia to provide non-stop sporting action for the kids.
Skipping races, footy games, a kicking competition, a jumping castle and a pedometer challenge kept the kids busy, while parents learnt how to cook healthy foods, weave baskets and enjoy the entertainment.
Live Longer! water bottles helped keep thirsty sporting mouths happy.
The staff looked great in their bright Live Longer! t-shirts – so much so that there were requests from the crowd on where to buy them!
Where: Christie Downs Community House, Cnr of Moreton Rd and Flaxmill Rd
When: Tuesday, 5 July 2011 from 11am
Host Organisation: Southern Adelaide NAIDOC Steering Committee, The ATSI Primary Health Unit and The Family Clinic
