3_ryan merritt eating some of the healthy lunchFun, fishing and footy were the order of the day when the Mungallah Aboriginal Community celebrated NAIDOC week.

Making the most of the blue sky and sunshine, families gathered at the Carnarvon foreshore for a great day of fishing and to cook up a nutritious meal from the catch. While others fished, the community got creative and painted a colourful “Live Longer!” banner with pictures showing ways to eat well and to make exercise fun.

To top the day off, everyone enjoyed a healthy and delicious lunch of fresh prawns and salads sponsored by the “Live Longer!” campaign.

Cheered on by locals, footy teams from Carnarvon, Burringurrah and Mungallah showed their great ball skills and physical fitness on the playing field. With exciting footy matches on show, everyone who attended agreed it was a fun day out to get active.

The host organisation, Carnarvon Medical Services Aboriginal Corporation said that holding “Live Longer!” themed events was a great way to spread the word on preventing chronic disease in the community. The Mungallah Community is hoping to make events like these a regular community event to Live Longer!
