There were smiles all round from the many kids at the Yarralin “Healthy Living” concert. Not only was it the beginning of their mid-year holiday, it was a time of celebration in the community.
Members of the Yarralin Community, located about 380km south-west of Katherine in the Northern Territory, were entertained by live music from local and neighboring community bands during the event as part of the national Live Longer! Campaign.
At the Yarralin Community School the music and entertainment went all day and a number of health displays and stalls around the grounds promoted the importance of healthy living.
The local community women were on hand to prepare and cook up the tasty lunch and dinner, which the men had caught earlier, including the turkey for the curry and kangaroo tails oven roasted in the ground.
The kids also had a chance to show off their dancing skills and moves on the basketball court.
The event organisers and some of the local community Elders certainly appreciated the opportunity to host such an event and there was nothing but good vibes and praise as the day’s activities kicked on well into the evening.
