Congress of Aboriginal Health in Aboriginal Lands LogoAlice Springs Central Australian Aboriginal Congress embraced ‘World No Tobacco Day’ on 31 May 2011, hosting a Live Longer! Healthy Community Day. Many locals flocked to hear the key message of the day – ‘Smoke free is the way to be’.

Local celebrities The G Man and Ryan Liddle from Imparja helped spread the health messages that smoking has a toxic impact on your health and body, and enormously increases your risk of chronic disease.

The team from CAAMA Radio broadcast live to air interviews with each of the key workers, speaking about the healthy lifestyle choices Aboriginal people can make to help prevent chronic disease.

Local women’s cooking group Kunkgas Can Cook provided a fresh nutritious lunch that included soup, sandwiches and healthy fruit platters, reinforcing the message that eating good tucker can help us Live Longer!

Information was available on the day on how to access support from the Healthy Lifestyle, Tobacco Action and Outreach Workers to start living a healthier life.
