The First Hoops 4 Health Live Longer! Challenges were held in the remote community of Maningrida on 27 October and Darwin on 30 October 2011. With over 300 people attending each event, it was a feast of activity to promote the importance of good health to Live Longer!

AFL stars Darryl White and Raphael Clarke as well as Manuel Dhurrkay from the popular band Saltwater were involved to show their support for Aboriginal health. The official mascot, Hooper surprised participants with a skit on eating good tucker, drinking water and staying active.

Thanks to the team at Hoops 4 Health for sharing their Local Community Campaigns project success – your hard work is helping communities to get active and Live Longer!

THERE was a time when indigenous film star Dean Daley-Jones would use his fists to resolve conflict, but now he’s using words to give Aboriginal men hope for the future.

Mr Daley-Jones was in Cairns yesterday to talk to about 150 people at a Men’s Healthy Community Day at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, where his first feature film Mad Bastards was also shown.

The 40-year-old said that using his new-found high profile to connect with indigenous men was one of the added benefits of starring in the film, which was selected for the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
